Promotion chasing George Cross came to Beauy and likely expected an easy ride , but were made to work hard by a determined Beauy team.
Having recently beaten Melbourne Victory, George Cross started strongly with the pace and movement of their front players a threat from the outset. Beauy were, however, pushing forward too, and Ryan Brown headed over the keeper for a chance cleared away by a defender midway through the half.
George Cross took the lead just prior to half time when an over the top ball was latched onto by their striker who cleverly lobbed over Fraser Maclaren in the Beauy goal.
Beauy were still well in the game and started the second half strongly, but went two behind when a cross from the right was headed home.
Beauy had a great chance when ‘AK’ Singh just failed to beat the keeper and a follow up was cleared off the line, but minutes later Ryan Brown forced the ball home and with 10 minutes to go, the game was back in the balance.
Unfortunately , Beauy were unable to make their pressure count and with three games to go are still involved in a tight relegation battle.
U21’s were beaten by a very strong GC outfit.
Next week vs North Sunshine Eagles away.
