Casey Comets 1-2 Beaumaris
Beauy continued their promotion push with a gritty win in difficult conditions at Casey last Saturday. At an unusually quiet Comets stadium dominated by away supporters, Beauy were able to grind out a win against tough opponents to ensure they stayed in the promotion mix.
The wind was a down-the-ground howler, although the rain stayed away. Kicking with the wind in the first half, Beauy dominated the game and had a quick start with Ryan Brown getting on the end of a superb ball from Gideon Sweet to slot home on 8 minutes before doubling the lead on 25 with a crisp shot into the roof of the net. Casey pushed back and almost got a goal after a defensive error saw the Casey striker one on one with keeper Jarrod Hill, but the ball was rolled wide.
Just prior to the break, Casey did score after a cross from the left found a man unmarked at the back post for a low header. 2-1 at halftime.
With the wind behind them, Casey came out firing in the second half and several long throws caused some concern for Hill and his new look defence, but Beauy held firm and indeed should have scored a couple as Casey pushed forward late in the game and breakaways were available.
Great win, especially with a new look defence and new starters in a couple of positions. Home games for the rest of the season starting against Bentleigh Cobras on 23 July at Reserve Rd. KO 3PM
Reserves had a smart 2-1 win also against Casey to hopefully get a winning streak underway again.
